Supplying Files and Artwork

Our preferred format for files that you supply to us ready to print should be high resolution PDF files.

The print ready PDF file for text pages should be saved as a single page file with the pages in the correct order. The fonts should be embedded and any images, for best results, should ideally be 300dpi and CMYK. You should allow for margins of 10 - 15mm or more on the page, particularly on the binding side, and please remember page numbers and running heads look much better if they are in the same position when they are printed on both sides of the page. Images can, if you wish, go past the margins and bleed off the page. If your images extend beyond the edge of the page they should do so by a minimum of 3mm. This is the bleed and will be trimmed off when the book is bound.

If you are supplying your own cover for the book it should be supplied as above as a high res PDF in one piece, with the spine, the correct width, in place. The cover should have a 3mm bleed all round. We can advise you what the width of the spine should be once a decision on the text paper has been made. If you have problems it is most likely we will be able to sort them out but our studio time may be chargeable. If your book is a hardback with a jacket and blocking we can give you additional information.

Although we cannot print straight from Microsoft Word documents, we can advise and support you in converting the file to PDF so if you are not sure of the best way to do this please get in touch.
